Responsibilities
- Understand the requirements for different product categories / industry segments / customers, drive Technology Roadmap, and identify technology and capabilitiy gaps, in joining (metals and plastics)
- Lead and execute advanced development projects in joining (including materials, equipment/tooling, and processes), understand process window and supply base capabilities, and drive innovation in joining
- Establish design rules related to mechanical joining processes including, ultrasonic welding, heat staking, riveting, tox, adhesives, spot welding, screwing, etc.
- Develop standards to implement proper levels of automation for joining processes to minimize production costs and maximize reliability.
- Develop standards for fixtures, tools, and horn designs, including maintenance schedules and modular designs for quick changeover.
- Develop common equipment standards and data collection methodologies for critical joining processes
- Develop calibration and maintenance standards for torque, riveting, and welding equipment and hand tools
- Develop qualification vehicles, training materials, and lead the build-up of factory capabilities through factory qualification and training
- Drive supply base technology roadmap and leverage supplier capabilities
- Identify resource requirements and gaps in joining capabilities
- Support key customer projects as related to joining
- Support the resolution of critical problems and continuous improvements in joining
Requirements
- BS degree in Science or Engineering; MS/Ph.D. preferred
- 3+ years experience and strong expertise in mechanical joining and assembly
- Experience with ultrasonic welding principles and an formal training in horn, fixture, and product design requirements.
- Experience with adheasive materials and various curing technologies
- Experience with various mechanical cold and warm joining processes for plastics and metals
- Scientific understanding of material properties and effects of associated joining processes
- Experience in advanced development projects and methodologies
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a complex, fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Strong ability to lead, manage and motivate teams to influence outcome
- Good Oral English |
